HMS Spey was commissioned at Invergordon on 18th June. She is a 2,000 ton Offshore Patrol Vessel armed with a 30mm Rarden cannon and mini guns and GPMGs. She can take a large Merlin helicopter on the back deck.
She is scheduled to be carrying out a variety of operations and visits in Asia – Pacific over the next few years.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by Shona Morrison, Convenor, and Roddy Burns, Chief Executive, of Moray Council, Chief Inspector Norman Stevenson and the Lord – Lieutenant. There was a fly past by a Poseidon aircraft from 120 Sqn at RAF Lossiemouth.
