Two new Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Moray have been approved by The King. They are Richard Forsyth of Rothes and Lucy Mackenzie of Hopeman. They fill the gaps in the Lieutenancy team left by the retirement of Joanna Grant Peterkin and the resignation of Lisa Kerr as she moves to Edinburgh.

Lord- Lieutenant Major General Seymour Monro praised the superb contributions made by both of them: ” They were fully active members of the Lieutenancy team. Joanna was notably involved in running the Moray Badge Platinum Jubilee in 2021/2022 which encouraged over 5,000 pupils from 50 schools to take part in various challenges. It was so successful that it is being started up on a permanent basis this coming year.
“Lisa Kerr as the Principal of Gordonstoun was also much involved in the Moray Badge Platinum Jubilee. Lisa has hosted no less than three Royal Visits over the past four years. We wish her every success at her new appointment as Principal of George Watson’s School in Edinburgh.”
Richard Forsyth is the Managing Director of Forsyths of Rothes the world’s premier producers of copper stills. In his early career he undertook positions in various mechanical and chemical engineering firms around the UK and in the USA. Richard is actively involved with Rothes Football Club and through the Forsyth Foundation supports many local clubs, associations, events and individuals.
Richard said:” I am very honoured to be considered and accepted for the position of Deputy Lieutenant. I feel privileged to be chosen to represent the Rothes area and look forward to discharging any duties bestowed upon me to the best of my abilities.”
Like Richard, Lucy Mackenzie was born in Moray. After a number of jobs in the UK and abroad, Lucy returned to Moray in 2002. She and her husband, Roddy, have become involved in Gordonstoun School as educational guardians for overseas students. Lucy has also been the joint organiser of the Burgie International Horse Trials. She is now a full-time gardener. She has been involved in a number of voluntary organisations for much of her life.
Lucy said: “It is a great honour to be joining the Lieutenancy team, and to be assisting the Lord Lieutenant and the other DL’s, and I look forward to working closely with communities in my local area”.
Seymour Monro said he was really delighted to have Richard and Lucy on the Lieutenancy team which brings it up to its full strength of 12 Deputy Lieutenants.
