The Lord-Lieutenant , Major General Seymour Monro, together with his wife Angela, attended the Lying-in State and the State Funeral as representatives of the people of Moray. Seated nearby was Douglas Ross, MP for Moray.

At the Funeral they were seated in the Nave and can just be made out 6 rows back from the aisle and about level with HRH The Princess Royal as she processes past.

General Monro said: “ It was a momentous occasion. The setting of Westminster Abbey is incomparable; and the music, the readings and the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Sermon were superb. The ceremonial was awesome and the performance of the young bearer party was quite outstanding.  The Queen’s Piper, PM Robert Burns, played ‘ Sleep, dearie , sleep’. Perfect. How proud we should all be of our Armed Forces. Above all our Royal Family were an inspiration; the King has given us great leadership whilst he mourns his Mother.

It was a most powerful Service and to see Her Majesty’s Coffin being carried past us gave pause for reflecting on what a wonderful Sovereign she was , and a gracious, much loved lady”

As we left the Abbey, we nearly bumped into President Biden. We were able to exchange a few words with him . He described his feelings to Angela and me: ‘It was a wonderful service, she was a very special lady
