Canada Day, was commemorated as usual on the 1st July at the RAF Dallachy Strike Wing Memorial.

The day was rather dreich, but happily the rain mostly died out for the service starting at 1100.

The service was led by the RAF Lossiemouth Station Padre with Flt Sgt James ‘Eddie’ Stobbart deputising for the Station Warrant Officer and keeping the Parade in order.

Wreaths were laid by Sue Finnegan representing the Moray Lord Lieutenancy, Flt Lt Samantha Cooper, a Canadian Officer (RAF Lossiemouth), Clair Tombe representing the Honorary Consul (Scotland), Peter Bloomfield (RAF Association and Armed Forces Champion), Councillor Marc Macrae (Moray Council), Chris Overing (Lennox Community Council).
Lewis Callear played the Reveille and Matt King piped the Lament.

As well as those who served at RAF Dallachy we also remembered the crew of a 427 Squadron RCAF Halifax which crashed, on the 25th November 1944, just off the beach at Kingston a couple of miles short of RAF Dallachy. 5 of the crew are buried nearby at Bellie Cemetery.

After the service all retired to nearby Spey Bay Hall where Joy and her team provided tea, coffee and home made scones and the costs will be donated to Poppy Scotland later in November after the Remembrance Day services.

Also attending were several members of the public and some four legged friends from the Young family decked out with Canadian flags.

We commemorate 3 events, ANZAC Day, Canada Day and Remembrance Day every year.
